Kenyan international Davis Chenge struck a brace of tries as Kenya Cup League leaders Kenya Commercial Bank extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches with a 50-15 demolition of hosts Strathmore Leos, at Jamhuri Showground, Nairobi, on Saturday.

It was a sweet revenge for Curtis Olago’s charges, who lost 37-32 to the scholars in their first leg meeting last year.

“It was a good game of rugby with a well-deserved result. But that’s now behind us as our focus still remains to reclaim the title,” said Chenge after his man of the match performance.

The victory saw the former champions open up a seven point (51) gap at the summit after their closest rivals Kenya Harlequin (44) lost a point and dropped to the second spot following their 15-7 defeat to Mwamba RFC at Railways Club.

The bankers were in a class of their own, completely dominating possession with Francis Mwita, Brian Omondi, Shaban Ahmed, Ian Indimuli, Felix Ojow and Rocky Aguko all touching down as Chenge, a former Western Bulls flanker, grabbed a brace to frustrate Strathmore’s play-off hopes.

Strathmore scored their three unconverted tries through Elkeans Musonye, Maurice Otieno and Churchill Ooko.

Mwamba stunned Kenya Harlequin 15-7, their second defeat of the season, as Kabras Sugar captain Max Adaka returned from a six match suspension to inspire the Kenya Cup champions to a 42-14 victory over Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.

Kulabu took an early 10-0 lead thanks to captain Salaton Muturi’s converted try and George Mutuku’s penalty.

Patrice Agunda pulled a converted try back for Quins just before the breather, but new signing, Kenyan international Billy Odhiambo, came off the bench to ground the second try for the seventh placed Mwamba and seal their fifth win of the season.

Fourth-placed Nakuru RFC left it late to beat their hosts Nondescripts 20-12 thanks to Brian Maina’s try in the second match of the day at Jamhuri Showground.

Last year’s losing finalists’ Impala RFC piled more misery on relegation threatened Western Bulls after beating them 17-15 in Kakamega.
