Four people have been buried alive at Kapsoit Trading Centre in Kericho County.

This is after a toilet block at a residential building collapsed on them on Friday morning, August 4.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the victims fell into the 30-foot-deep hole after the toilet's floor and walls gave way.

According to those who witnessed the incident, one person was using the toilet, while another was bathing in a nearby bathroom when the structure collapsed.

“In a brave attempt to save their neighbours, two other individuals ventured to help but tragically ended up falling into the hole themselves,” said a resident.

Betsy Chebet, the Kericho County Public Service Management chief officer responsible for disaster management, confirmed that two victims had been rescued.

“However, the operation to save the remaining two victims is still ongoing. Authorities and rescue teams are diligently working to bring the situation under control,” she said.

Police are yet to release a report on the incident.
