Two KDF soldiers have been killed and several others injured after suspected bandits ambushed them in Laikipia.

The Wednesday incident came barely hours after the bandits shot dead two GSU officers and injured one at Ngerecha area of Kamwenje village, Laikipia West Sub County.

According to sources, the KDF soldiers were shot while working on a trench being dug along the Laikipia Nature Conservancy (LNC) to deter bandits from moving stolen animals from neighbouring villages.

The bandits are also said to have destroyed some of the construction equipment during a heavy fire exchange with the KDF.

Inside sources have revealed that at least seven KDF soldiers were airlifted to Nairobi for treatment from the site after they sustained bullet injuries.

The residents had during the day reported heavy gunfire in Kamwenje area after the bandits attempted to overrun a GSU camp at Kamwenje Police Base.
