Kitale man killed as he tried to separate fighting couple

A 23-year-old man was killed when he tried to separate a fighting couple at MItume estate in Kitale town.

Kennedy Simiyu reportedly went to intervene after hearing screams from the couple’s house.

Villager elder Julia Mumbi said Simiyu was stabbed in the chest and back.

Mumbi told the police that neighbours had heard screams from the couple’s house.

‘’We only [later] discovered the body lying in the ditch and blood oozing from the chest and back,’’ said another neighbour.

After the incident the woman left the house while her husband managed to escape into a maize field when residents tried to arrest him.

It is not clear what the couple were fighting over.

Trans Nzoia County Commander Ayub Gitonga said the suspects are at large and are being sought.

‘’We are told after the incident the woman left for her parents' house while her husband escaped to the nearby maize field," Gitonga said.

Tuwani Ward MCA Bernard Wabwa urged police to ensure the suspects are arrested and prosecuted.

The body was taken to KitaleTeaching and Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations commence.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man who went missing a week ago in Siklinwo farm in Saboti has been found dead.

The body of Anthony Kwemoi was discovered inside Sossio forest where he was said to have allegedly gone to harvest cidar poles. Sossio is a government forest.

The deceased’s wife Scovia Chepkwemoi alerted other family members that her husband had failed to show up after visiting the forest.

‘’He left to the forest to harvest some poles but failed to return. I alerted other family members before villagers were mobilised to search for him before the body was discovered inside the forest,’’ the widow told police.

Police moved the body from the scene as investigations begin on the cause of his death.
