Agony as family yet to find body of man who drowned

The body of a man who drowned at River Pesi in Rumuruti, Laikipia West three days ago is yet to be retrieved.

Stanley Kiago from Gatundia village was crossing the river at Matigari area where he accidentally slid and drowned as the river had broken its banks.

On Tuesday, his relatives claimed that the search had turned up to be futile due to the heavy rains pounding the area.

“The river is swollen making it impossible to get into the deep waters where he fell. It is now three days after the accident and we do not know what to do,” said Peter Mwangi.

He said that they had involved the police and local divers who were yet to find the body.

“We are in a dilemma on whether to continue the search or to wait for the rains to subside. The family is now stressed as he was the only bread winner,” he noted.

He called on the government to deploy Kenya Defense Forces divers to help in the recovery mission.
