Jubilee leaders are asking those named in the fake gold saga not to drag President Uhuru Kenyatta into the mess.

They challenged ODM leader Raila Odinga to state what he knows about the matter.

Speaking in Endebess and Saboti constituencies yesterday where they accompanied Deputy President William Ruto during the launch of various projects, the lawmakers questioned why the country’s security officials were reportedly protecting premises with the fake gold.

They were governors Patrick Khaemba (Trans Nzoia) and Ferdinand Waititu of Kiambu, MPs Robert Pukose (Endebess), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), Janet Nangabo (Women Rep, Trans Nzoia), Rahab Mukami (Women Rep, Nyeri), Mathias Robi (Kuria West), Janet Jepkemboi (Turbo), Gabriel Tongoyo (Narok West), Fred Kapondi (Mt Elgon) and Owen Baya  of Kilifi North.

Return money

Waititu said those involved in the matter should return money they falsely obtained from the deal.

Ruto said President Kenyatta’s name should not be dragged into the illegal gold business.

“They should not import bad habits to Jubilee. They should shun these dirty deals,” he said.

The DP said: “Those involved are political conmen turned business conmen and should carry their cross alone”.

“How can you use the General Service Unit to safeguard the home of those involved in criminal activity?” Ms Jumwa posed.

The Malindi MP said the Parliamentary Security Committee would seek an explanation from the Ministry of Interior on the matter.

While echoing Jumwa’s position, Mr Baya said Kenya’s safety and ability to trade internationally had been undermined.

Mr Pukose said: “Those involved and who hold public office should step aside to pave the way for investigations.”

Meanwhile, Governor Khaemba has lauded Jubilee’s development record, citing the ongoing road works in the county.

“I urge Kenyans to join Jubilee Party that is uniting Kenyans and addressing their development needs,” he said.
