TB patients in Samburu County living in fear

RIFT VALLEY
By Michael Saitoti | May 8th 2019

Patients living with Tuberculosis infection in Maralal town, Samburu County are now living in fear due to lack of medicine at the Samburu County Referral Hospital.

The patients disclosed that their efforts to visit the facility to check if medicine is available since last week Monday have not yielded any fruit.

“I am suffering from tuberculosis, I have been coming here since Monday but there are no drugs, I’m not alone. We don’t know what to do, we are afraid that we might succumb to TB or even spread the infection to other people,” Francis Lotukai, a TB patient said.

However, despite all the fears, some patients like John Mwangi of Loikas village within Maralal town are hopeful that they will find relief even though they might be forced to begin fresh treatment.

“I’m suffering from TB, I have been coming here since Monday but there are no drugs. I was afraid that I might die but we are being told that we should have hope,” he said.

However, The Standard could not get a comment from the hospital’s administration after journalists were banned from accessing the premises over unknown reasons.
