Court orders age assessment on individuals facing robbery with violence charge

NIROBI, KENYA: A court in Nakuru has directed to have age assessment test done on two individuals facing charges of robbery with violence.

Senior Resident Magistrate Josephat Kalo directed that the accused persons be taken to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital to have their ages determined after contradicting information about their ages was availed in court.

This will help the court in handling the case and determine how the two accused persons will be treated.

The charge sheet indicates that the two, Laban Mwangi and John Maina, are 19 and 20 respectively. Mwangi however told the court that he is 17 years while Maina said he is 19.

The two are accused of robbing Willy Ndiguri of his phone and M-pesa float including a Samsung tablet among other items all valued at Sh48, 000.

The two are alleged to have committed the offense together with others who were not in court at Barnabas area in Nakuru while armed with panga and knife on August 17, 2016.

They denied the charges and were released on Sh400,000 bond with surety of a similar amount.

Their case will be mentioned on August 23, 2016
