Marginalized communities living in Nakuru to receive identification cards

KENYA: Marginalised communities in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru will acquire IDs after successful vetting. Registrar of persons Emily Nyaga said the more than 100 people from Turkana, Borana, Taita and Somali need intensive vetting to ensure they are eligible ID holders to avoid registering aliens and criminals. She said it is unfortunate that those who had attained the age of 18 did not have eligible documents, for instance, baptismal cards, birth certificates or any document required for registration. The registration comes following President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive to Registrar of Persons to issue IDs to all eligible youth. Speaking in Nakuru, the President also said the government would allocate more funds to the IEBC to register more youths as voters.
