Man allegedly defiles and kills his two daughters

Residents of Cheptuya village are still in shock after a man allegedly raped and killed his two daughters.

The two, aged eight and nine, are alleged to have been killed on Sunday night by their father, who is thought to have since gone into hiding in Nandi South forest.

Nandi South OCPD Francis Warui confirmed the incident, saying he was called by Chepkong’ony Assistant Chief Ibrahim Kosgey yesterday morning and told that two children had been found dead in their house.

“On arriving at the murder scene, we found two girls lying lifeless on the bed. There was a young boy aged three in the house who was not hurt,” said Mr Warui.

According to the OCPD, the girls had injuries on their bodies and blood was oozing from their private parts, which led the police to suspect the assailant defiled them before strangling them.

BIOLOGICAL FATHER

Mr Kosgey said the girls’ father had quarreled with his wife two weeks ago, and she had left their matrimonial home with her children.

“[The man] went to his wife’s home on Sunday evening and picked his three-year-old son. His wife then asked the two girls to accompany him so that they could look after the little boy,” Kosgey narrated.

According to the assistant chief, the suspect is not the biological father of the two girls, though they were raised as his daughters. The three-year-old was the only child the suspect had got with his wife.

Kosgey said the suspect’s relationship with his wife has been characterised by intermittent fights the past three years, but nobody thought he would kill the minors.

“The wife, who was too grieved to speak about the incident, only told us her estranged husband passed by their home early that morning and told her to accompany him to make breakfast for the children, but she hesitated,” Kosgey said. The woman asked her 13-year-old nephew to go in her place and ensure the three children were okay, but her husband was against the idea.

Warui said police officers had launched a manhunt for suspect. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
