Security officers deployed to Laikipia-Baringo border to keep off fleeing bandits

Laikipia, Kenya: A contingent of security officers has been deployed to the Laikipia-Baringo border, in a bid to keep off bandits running away from ongoing security operation in Kapedo.

Laikipia County Commissioner Wilson Wanyanga said various contingents comprising the General Service Unit (GSU), Administration (AP) and regular police, are already at the borderline, where they are patrolling with the aim of keeping off fleeing bandits.

Speaking to The Standard on telephone, Wanyanga noted that the criminals might opt to cross over to Laikipia since there is no no military operation.

"We understand that the militia may opt to run away from the areas to avoid encounters with the security agents, and this has made us to deploy various police units to the area. We are also working closely with the intelligence and the community to ensure that we get necessary information in case the bandits cross over," said the County Commissioner.

The government has deployed military to flush out bandits who shot dead 19 police officers last week in Kapedo, Baringo County.
