SAMBURU, KENYA: Armed people invaded a village at Suguta Marmar in Samburu County seriously injuring a family of seven including children.

The seven injured are undergoing treatment at Maralal District Hospital while awaiting further management from specialists should there be need, a hospital staff said.

The armed mob invaded the village at 8pm Friday and indiscriminately sprayed bullets to the homestead.

Reports indicate that the same mob had attacked the same village last week but did not injure anyone though they shot at houses severally.

According to Francis Silale a neighbour to attacked family, he heard gun shots at around 8pm just when he was heading to sleep.

Police responded later and took the injured to the Suguta Marmar Health Centre where they were later referred to Maralal District Hospital.

The mother of the homestead Lolkere Mpayan 47, told the Standard that she did not understand why they were attacked by the assailants since they do not own livestock nor money.

“My family depends on casual labour,” said Lolkere who sustained a bullet wound to her thigh.

Her husband Nakwa Mpayan 44, was shot on the chest with their children Elizabeth Mpayan 7 years and 9 year old Ekiru Mpayan 9 sustained injuries to their legs.

Other family members Ebongon Mpayan 60 and John Mpayan 53 also sustained various injuries.

Tension is in high in Suguta Marmar following the attack, with residents of Suyan, Morijo, Marti, Lomerok, Kawap and Baragoi moving from their homes due to insecurity.
