CHAT parre' was kare

The CHAT party at Skyluxx this past Wednesday was filled to the brim with local artistes and it was evident that there is much excitement about this year’s Chaguo La Teeniez mostly fuelled by the new artistes who have been nominated.

There is a plethora of talent out there and it’s amazing just how much goes untapped because we are used to seeing music in a certain way. I do think there is artistes who deserve to be in the limelight but I also think there are some artistes who maybe should stand in the shade for a little longer.

Anyway today we are not going to rain on anyone’s parade rather just give a showdown on the good, the bad the ugly of the first exclusive party of the year

The venue

Skyluxx was spared the agony of Psys and Changes; both clubs suffered damage from the hooligans commonly known as University of Nairobi students.

This is mainly because it’s not situated on the ground floor and also because perhaps the uni students have no idea it exists. Let me just rant about this for a bit.

(L-R)Avril, Size 8, Mimmo and Marya at the CHAT bash.

First of all, what’s the point of calling something a peaceful demonstration when you always end up throwing rocks and other flying objects at people and things? Second what had Changes got to do with the mayhem? Those are questions we will probably never know.

The personalities

There were so many local celebs in the area it was hard to figure out who to look at. There was Oliech with a hairstyle that can only be described as a receding Mohawk, together with Joey, Anto of the Paragasha fame was the MC, a job he enjoyed very much because he just loves talking into a microphone.

Then we had Grace Makosewe, she of the VIP party fame, who knew she attended parties other than her own? Juliani, Daddy Owen and a couple of gospel artistes were in the house sipping on juice. They were the first to leave possibly because they were not used to seeing so many short skirts and exposed legs. Then of course Size 8 was there with her sis Size 7. We also had the Changing Times crew and Tahidi High crew mingling amongst themselves.

Performances

There was a totally random performance by the Chockoza team that is Avril and Marya. Because there was no stage the duo walked around the club with their mics. Trying to locate where the voices were coming from proved a task because they kept moving. Still they did a good job of repping but I wish there had been a stage in place.

Music

DJ CrËme De La CrËme was on the decks. His music selection ranged from local hits, reggae hits including songs by QQ and Denyque as well as the usual mix of the Nairobi nightclub scene. Not bad but it would have been nice to see more of the videos and hear the songs of those nominated.

Still the party was on point and I was happy to see more artistes heeding the advice dished out about being more outgoing when it comes to events but then again this may have been pre-empted by the open bar. Still they came out and dazzled and as the Chaguo La Teeniez date draws near let’s hope they will dazzle some more.
