This is the right time for corporate bodies to support Harambee Stars

The appointment of a committee to raise funds for the national team is a good idea that has come at the most opportune moment.

Better still, the committee has been put in the hands of independent individuals which is also encouraging.

For a long time, lack of finance has been a major setback for the national team’s progress, with players going on strike and coaches complaining over non-honoured contracts.

Now, players and the technical bench will have no reason to complain and they will be required to concentrate on their duties fully. This should guarantee the team an opportunity to travel and play several build-up matches which have been sorely lacking in the last five years.

The committee’s independence is another crucial aspect and those in charge should not find any trouble raising money.

Given the composition of the committee, it is in very able hands. Hussein Mohammed, who is the coordinator, is a well-known football promoter, especially in Nairobi.

Here is a man who cares about the game. We expect to see the same passion he had running the Extreme Super Eight tournament put into this extremely important national task.

For corporate companies who have been wishing to support the team, this is the time for them to come on board. The opportunities for growth are immense what with the 2010 World Cup just around the corner. Let us all support Stars course.
