Youth register a new political party, recruitment drive ahead

A section of youth and professionals from at least five counties have come up with a new political formation - Party of Economic Democracy, which will soon start recruiting members.

Party officials received the registration certificate from the Registrar of Political parties on Thursday, setting ground for the recruitment exercise officials say will be delayed due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Sources indicate the party is well funded by professionals, majority from Kisii, Nyamira and others from Eastern and Central region counties.

The party symbol is a person running with its Organising Secretary seat reserved for Western, a patron from Kisii while Kamba region has been offered the vice chair post.

Party members led by former Moi University Student Union (MUSO) president Mogire Onchiri said they are ready for a generational change in Kenyan politics.

“We are interested in the country’s economic, social and political prosperity. Its high time we entrusted the young with the country’s leadership,” said Mogire.

The Gusii region is associated with Ford People and Orange Democratic Party (ODM).
