Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga yesterday asked Coast residents to reject Jubilee as a protest against extrajudicial killings and failure to implement radical land reforms in the region.

Raila told a rally at Bongwe Ward in Kwale that Jubilee was trying to woo Coast residents using empty promises   ahead of the General Election.

He said the opposition was ready for the elections and once reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) were complete, his party would employ 60 agents at every polling station to guard against rigging.

Raila said the Opposition would seal all loophole to protect the vote, and this will ultimately lead to  a Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD)  victory.

The former Prime Minister said that Jubilee was desperately  launching new projects and dishing out title deeds ahead of the elections to cover up its failure to cover up its inability to deal with landlessness and poverty at the coast, and the targeting of local people for extrajudicial killings

He also said Coast residents deserve protection and development as a right, not a favour.

"It is the duty of the State to protect life and property because everyone in Kenya pays taxes without exception. The government collects taxes for the benefit of all citizens and to develop the country and deliver services," Raila said.

Raila was touring the Coast accompanied by MPs Suleiman Dori (Msambweni), Willy Mtengo (Malindi), Aisha Jumwa (Kilifi), Mishi Mboko (Mombasa) and MCA Omar Boga.
