CORD wants Fred Matiang'i to resign

The Opposition wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to order the closure of schools.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) Thursday said this was to avert further loss of property following the wave of arson attacks in schools.

CORD also demanded the resignation of Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i following the cases of school fires witnessed across the country.

Led by CORD co-principal Moses Wetang'ula (Ford Kenya), Orange Democratic Movement Chairman John Mbadi (Suba), Wiper Party Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar (Mombasa) and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo the leaders censured the CS over his reasons for the fires.

"We do not believe what the CS is telling the country has any truth. We demand an open and public inquiry into these relentless fires to establish the root causes and deal with those found culpable," said Wetang'ula, also the Senate minority leader.

The coalition further wants the President to declare the issue a national disaster.

Thursday, CORD took a swipe at Matiang'i, citing his erratic, knee-jerk and disruptive leadership at the helm of the Education ministry.
