Governor Sospeter Ojaamong eyes ODM vice chairman post

Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong and his deputy Kizito Wangalwa are eyeing ODM's vice chairman's seat.

The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Funyula MP Paul Otuoma.

This came as Otuoma expressed his interest to unseat Ojaamong as governor in next year's elections. 

Matayos MP Geoffrey Odanga, who is also the ODM county chairman, has also announced his candidature for the vice chairman's post.

Ojaamong said he is fit for the position after serving in senior positions in various political parties including NDP and Kanu.

"It's unfortunate that my brothers resigned. But since I have been secretary general for NDP before joining Kanu, I believe I am fit for the position," said Ojaamong.

Wangalwa, a former National Tax Payers Association coordinator, says he has the necessary experience and expertise to replace Otuoma.

"I am going for the seat because it fits me. Looking at my background, which includes being deputy governor, the seat fits me perfectly. I have the ability to serve in that national position," said Wangalwa

Odanga said he has what it takes to hold the position, being the county ODM chairman.

The trio said the positions left by Otuoma and Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba, who resigned as secretary general should remain in Busia County.

"We have remained loyal to ODM for years. We deserve the seats, especially since former holders hail from our county. We hope the seats will not be taken away," said Odanga.
