NAIROBI: An initiative to amend sections of the Constitution launched four weeks ago by Jubilee legislators has received the backing of over 180 MPs.

Tiaty MP Asman Kamama, the chairman of the Boresha Katiba initiative that proposes a death sentence for corrupt public officers and drug dealers, said they have received the endorsement of 185 MPs.

"We have collected 153 signatures from MPs. Thirty two others have expressed their support for the initiative and they have promised to append their signatures soon," he said.

Speaking yesterday during a press briefing at Parliament Buildings,Mr Kamama said they are happy over the positive feedback the initiative is getting from the public.

"Our quest to amend 20 per cent of the Constitution, which is deemed unsuitable, is unstoppable. We are in the process of formulating a bi-partisan team to go around the country to gather views on aspects of the Constitution they want improved or amended," he said.

The initiative also seeks to increase counties monetary allocation to 46 per cent and have Cabinet secretaries appointed from Parliament.
