Mt Kenya MPs in hasty retreat over threats against President Uhuru Kenyatta's decisions

NYERI: Central Kenya Parliamentarians have affirmed support for the government and dismissed claims that there was a wave of disquiet in the region.

Led by Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi who is also the Central Kenya Parliamentary Caucus patron, Senators Mutahi Kagwe, Kimani Wamatangi, Lenny Kivuti, Muriuki Karue, Kembi Getura, Beatrice Elachi, and GG Kariuki said the people of central Kenya were firmly behind the government.

"We elected this government and shall support it to the end," they said.

The Parliamentarians made the remarks today when they joined Deputy President William Ruto for a Sunday mass at St Peters ACK church in Nyeri town.

Joined by 11 Members of the National Assembly, they said people of Central Kenya overwhelmingly voted for the Jubilee administration and will not abandon the government midstream.

They said views expressed by different legislators from the region were done in good faith.

"This government has our unwavering support because we are the ones who elected it," said Kiraitu.

He likened the Jubilee administration to a house where members freely expressed opinion to strengthen each other.

Said the Meru senator, "This is our own house and those of us with suggestions are doing so in good faith to strengthen the house."

They said there was no contention between the members of the Senate and the National Assembly.

Deputy President William Ruto said transformation agenda for the country remained on course despite criticism from opposition Cord.

"Our transformation agenda for the country is on course because we want to develop our country equally and in a fair way," said the DP.

He said that devolution was a vehicle that will ensure resources are fairly distributed to all corners of the country.

The Deputy President took swipe at those engaging in too much politics at the expense of service delivery saying it was undermining development efforts.

He said some individuals have formed a habit of criticising all development processes and were now targeting the youth agenda being fronted by government.

"They know the youth are catalysts for transformation that is why they are targeting our youth agenda like the National Youth Service's programme," he said.

“They are criticising efforts being initiated by the Jubilee administration like our effort to tackle corruption and yet they had no alternative solutions to problems facing the country," added the Deputy President.

The Deputy President maintained that those making noise would not distract Government efforts in implementing the development programmes it promised Kenyans.

"The Jubilee administration is committed to ensuring devolution works because the future of Kenya must have development we are all proud of," said Mr Ruto.

He told the governors to ensure Kenyans at the grassroots benefit from the fruits of devolution by guaranteeing efficient utilization of resources.

He said the Government was focusing more on development projects geared towards improving the living standards.

"We are embarking on development of the health, agriculture and education sectors as the opposition continues to engage in empty rhetoric," he said.

He pointed out that the number of women delivering from government health facilities had increased from 40 to 60 percent in two years.

"Today deliveries in government health facilities have gone up from 40 percent to 60 per cent because these services are now free of charge," he said.

MPs Esther Murugi Wamboi, Kanini Kega, Mary Wamboi, Moses Kuria and James Ndungu Githinji castigated leaders whose main agenda was to create division among Kenyans.

The MPs were speaking at Chaka trading centre when the DP addressed a public rally.

Murugi said, We know this government is focused on serving Kenyans and will not be derailed by any amount of shouting and outbursts from politicians without an agenda."

She said Mount Kenya MPs passionately support the president and his Deputy to achieve the vision of the Jubilee administration and seek to have them re-elected in 2017.
