Bureti MP asks residents not to attend meetings of Ruto’s rivals

Bureti MP Leonard Sang has asked members of the Kalenjin communty not to attend meetings convened by politicians perceived to be against Deputy President William Ruto.

Sang who was accompanied by a local Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) activist Nelson Koech said the group of politicians led by Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto were distracting members of the community from the development agenda with their constant politicking and blame game against the DP.

"It is time that members of the Kalenjin community ceased giving an audience to the Deputy President’s political rivals who have no other agenda but to politic around the clock when they should be focusing on uplifting the living standards of their electorate," said Sang.

Koech warned that should the group of politicians who include Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, senators, Stephen Ntutu (Narok) Gideon Moi (Baringo) and Emuruwa Dikir MP Johanna Nengo fail to cease politicking; JAP's followers would begin ejecting them from political meetings.

"We are tired of the politicians who have made members of the Kalenjin community a laughing stock of the rest of the Kenyans through their constant political bickering, defiance and public insult on the deputy president William Ruto," said Koech.

Kericho County Assembly Speaker Japheth Mutai and Rayc foundation director Raymond Cheruiyot asked Emurwa Dirkir MP to stick to the issue over the claims that he had attempted to use mau forest settlers for political gain by stage managing the razing down of a hut in the area.

Mutai said Ngeno's stinging comments in the press and social media against the DP bordered on personal attack and was part of a wider scheme by Ruto's opponents to malign his name.

The Speaker nonetheless said the scheme would collapse since the DP was an innocent leader who would prevail against the evils lined up on his road to the presidency in the 2022 general elections.

"We would like to tell the Deputy President that we are proud and have faith in him. We are asking him not to fear the schemes of his political opponents because he is not dotted with any evil and would prevail and succeed in everything he has set his sights on," said Mutai.

"The Emurwa Dikir Member of Parliament should learn to measure his words carefully lest he would ignite a political fire which would consume himself very fast," said Cheruiyot.

A blogger, Tom Beigon faulted the MP of resuscitating the 2007 post-election violence by mentioning the infamous Kiambaa church burning incident where tens of people who had taken refuge there perished in an arson attack.

Kericho Senator Charles Keter is also on record asking a section of Rift Valley leaders led by Bomet governor Isaac Ruto to accord the deputy president the respect his stature deserves.

"Some people are going around displaying arrogance that the Deputy President is their age mate. We would like to remind such individuals that Ruto is just not another Kenyans to be played around with. He is the Deputy President of the republic and deserves some respect," he said.
