Anyanga wants parliament to reject Namwamba tape of bribery

NAIROBI: A member of the troubled Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has now moved to challenge the admissibility of a tape recording produced by the beleaguered chairman where another member is captured admitting to taking a Sh200,000 bribe.

Nyatike MP Omondi Anyanga Wednesday told the Powers and Privileges Committee, which is probing corruption allegations in the watchdog committee, to ignore the tape recording as it did not meet the minimum requirements for admissibility.

Mr Anyanga protested the manner in which the recording was done, arguing that it did not meet the rules set for confessions and neither did it meet the legal standards of the Evidence Act.

“The audio recording manufactured by Namwamba is a project of blackmail and subversion of the law and customs, procedures and traditions of Parliament. It serves no purpose in law or morality. It is a self-serving enterprise of a person who believes in the romanticised escapades of Sherlock Holmes or a James Bond,” Anyanga told the House committee.

The MP urged the committee chaired by Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi to dismiss the audio recording, which allegedly implicates Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama to having received a bribe from Anyanga, since the same cannot be corroborated.

Anyanga has denied claims by Namwamba that he received Sh1.5 million from Defence Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo, part of which the PAC chairman alleges was paid to Arama.
