CORD roots for national referendum in Saba Saba rally

Nairobi, Kenya: The Coalition for reform and democracy Monday held the much awaited Saba Saba rally at Uhuru Park in Nairobi where they raised issues that they want addressed by the Jubilee Government.

The CORD principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula arrived at the venue shortly after 2pm to a rousing welcome from supporters and other coalition leaders who had camped there since morning.

The coalition leaders addressed the gathering raised issues ranging from rising cases of insecurity, tribalism in public appointments and failure by the government to share resources of the country equitable.

CORD read out a list of resolutions and demands resulting from their consultations and rallies leading upto the Saba Saba rally.

Among the resolutions is call for a national referendum to address issues in the Constitution. The coalition said the referendum should be overseen by the UN adding that they have lost confidence in IEBC.

“We resolve to convene an all-inclusive National Referendum Committee (NRC) for the purpose of preparing the people of Kenya for a national referendum on the critical challenges facing our Nation,” said CORD.

The coalition said it would mandate the National Referendum Committee to ensure the maximum participation of the people of Kenya in the referendum at the County, Sub-County and Ward levels all over Kenya; in formulating the referendum question(s), collecting and collating one million signatures to initiate the referendum.
