Amani claims CORD plans to rig Bungoma by-election

NAIROBI, KENYA: Former Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani Coalition has raised flag IN THE December 19 Bungoma Senate by-election with claims that CORD plans to rig the mini-poll.

Through a statement, Amani claims that Cord which is its major competitor has set aside Sh 12 million for “Operation Nunua Kura”.

“The operation will be in Amani strongholds. A helicopter carrying former speaker Kenneth Marende will be used to ferry this money into Bungoma on Wednesday. A team of two Cord MPs per Ward using the Cord MCAs will bribe voters on Wednesday night and as voters go to polling on Thursday. Operation Nunua Kura team is led by Homabay Senator Otieno Kajwang’ and includes Senator Daisy, Agostino Neto and Wilberforce Ottichillo,” claims Amani.

Amani alledges that the Sh12 million will also be used to buy voters IDs and cards in an elaborate plot led by a former vocal MP from Bungoma.

“The plan is that once a card is taken away from a voter, the information will be passed to compromised IEBC officials at polling centres to cross off the voters name in the register indicated that they have voted. Many Amani supporters will be turned away from voting in this way,” said Kibisu Kabatesi, Private and Press Secretary to Musalia Mudavadi.

“Turning away voters is a clever way to ensure there are extra and enough ballot papers for stuffing. Compromised IEBC officials are then tasked with issuing multiple ballot papers to identified voters to mark in favour of Cord candidate. In this scheme, we know a Ms. Daina Lukusi, said to be a relative of Wetangula who has hired her car to IEBC but is a Cord agent in Webuye East who is the link to IEBC officials and will coordinate the theft exercise.”

He claims another team led by Ababu Namwamba that includes Mp Kabuchai Lusweti and former Khaduyi MP Alfred Khangati met on Monday at Rosewood Bar to plan the attack. “The attack will be carried out by 70 imported goons who slept at Lusweti’s home and are now assembled at Generations Bar owned by Wetangula.”

“We have notified the IEBC of these evil acts and hope they will take immediate remedial action.”
