RIFT VALEY; KENYA: Kanu national chairman Gideon Moi has said security will be his top priority for Baringo County if elected senator.

Gideon noted security was paramount for people of Baringo and pledged to equip all police stations across the county to end perrenial cattle rustling.

“The first thing I will tackle head-on is insecurity menace. I will acquire a county chopper that will be responding to insecurity alerts as soon as they happen as a measure to curb the issue,” said Gideon, who spoke on Thursday at Kabarnet town after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commmision cleared him to contest the seat on a Kanu ticket.

“Rampant insecurity in parts of Baringo North District and Arabal in Marigat District is a setback to the economic development of the county and this should end,” he added.

He said he was confident that Kanu will make a strong comeback in the region based on strong candidates the party has fielded in all elective positions. “I am delighted I have been issued with nomination certificate. I have confidence of winning,” he said.

He observed Kanu has a high influence and excellent network on the ground.

Gideon’s bid received a boost yesterday after prominent businessman Joshua Kulei endorsed him for the county Senate seat.

Mr Kulei said Gideon was the best candidate for the seat given his experience in politics and public sphere.

He said the Kanu national chairman was a good leader who will steer the county leadership to prosperity.

“He has experience to develop Baringo County as the country moves to county governments,” he said.

Kulei also threw his weight behind Mr Benson Cheboi, who is gunning for the county governor seat and Grace Kiptui vying for women representative seat under URP party tickets.
