It is now crystal clear that Eastleigh has become a punching bag for terrorists. It is such an easy target that terrorists (most likely the same group of miscreants) keep on striking again and again—always catching security agencies flat-footed.
The target of last Friday’s attack was, no doubt, Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan, most likely because of his repeated condemnations of Al Shabaab.
It is unlikely this is the last attack on Eastleigh. The sprawling suburb, one of the city’s busiest business hubs, will suffer great loss, as customers will shun, if they haven’t already done so, visiting the area.
Outcry
If unchecked, terrorism will surely take the sheen off Eastleigh. That should not be allowed to happen. That is why the Government should consider taking drastic action in the area and other estates suspected to be hideouts for terrorists, even if this will involve conducting house to house searches to pluck out the suspects. Such a move, however, is certain to cause outcry. That’s why police must conduct crackdowns with civility to avoid civilian casualties.
