Demonstration over protest in Bomet confirms Ruto's prowess

I must confess I was rather impressed by the organisational skills of Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto. Upon encountering mobs organised to protest his decision to build a new university in Sigor town, as opposed to Bomet, as proposed by others, he quickly swung into action to organise a protest of his own.

A demo against a demo was the succinct caption to a picture on the protests early this week.

What’s puzzling was where funds for the protest were procured at such a short notice.

Obviously, the funds couldn’t have come from public coffers because one of the reasons the other camp were protesting was the alleged lack of accountability from the governor.

There is also money needed to hire supporters – here I am invoking the wisdom largely reported by other politicians – which makes a lot of sense since no right-thinking Kenyan will spend his day roaming the streets looking for a protest to join without any compensation.

Whatever the case, Ruto must be commended for such swift action that confirmed he is not the boss at governors’ council for nothing, he has proved he is a competent political organiser.

And his opponents must recognise that by now, if they hadn’t already.
