Four family members die at Migori accident scene

Four members of the same family died on the spot while several others were injured in a car accident.
 
The car they were travelling in collided headon with a truck at Kanga Machine in Migori County.
 
Witnesses said the lorry was trying to overtake a small vehicle while heading to Rongo on the Kisii-Migori road.

The truck hit the small vehicle by the side before the driver lost control.
 
The small vehicle swerved into a ditch leaving an infant with serious injuries while the other occupants escaped with minor injuries.
 
Witness Erick Odhiambo said the lorry later hit a saloon car which was coming from the opposite direction , killing the four family members on the spot.
 
"The lorry came and as it was trying to overtake the small vehicle it hit it. After that all we heard was a big bang. We ran to see what had happened and saw a saloon car crushed and all its occupants dead," Odhiambo said.
 
The four - a man, woman and two elderly women were said to have been coming from a ceremony before meeting their death.

Rongo Sub-County Police Commander (OCPD) Peter Okiring said the four died at the scene.
 
Okiring said police have launched investigations to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. At the moment it is suspected that the truck was speeding.
 
The bodies were taken to Rosewood Hospital mortuary in Rongo while the injured were taken to Rongo Sub-County Hospital.?
 
Okiring urged members of the public with information on those who perished to help identify the bodies.
