Nyanza Regional Police Commander Lydia Ligami was Tuesday moved in changes announced by police headquarters.

The changes come two months after she reported to the office in changes which also saw the entire national leadership in the region changed.

In the latest changes, Machakos County Police boss Karanja Muiruri was promoted and deployed to Nyanza as the regional boss to replace Ms Ligami. Ms Ligami was recalled to police headquarters where she will wait for allocation of duties. She had been moved to Nyanza from Eastern region in August 2020 and swapped positions with Noah Mwivanda.

Nyanza is seen as a new base of political violence given the emerging trends hence the decision by police chiefs to make changes that are seen to be good in controlling the situation.

Officials at police headquarters said more changes are anticipated in the coming days to address any form of weakness in various places.

Meanwhile, more than 3,500 police officers are set to undergo promotion training at their colleges.

Recruitment of those eligible for the training has been completed after interviews.

Those targeted for promotion are from the rank of constable to that of chief inspector, documents seen suggest.

The group will undergo a six-month promotional course under new guidelines set by the National Police Service Commission.

Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai had directed the candidates be interviewed and he gets the returns by end of October for onward training at the National Police Service Training colleges in Kiganjo, Embakasi and Directorate of Criminal Investigations in South C.
