A family in Nyaribari Masaba is seeking justice for their 13-year-old Class Eight girl who was defiled by a boda boda operator.
The suspect is yet to be arrested even as family claims he is operating freely at his rural home, less than three kilometers from the girl’s home.
A medical report seen by The Standard indicates that the girl is pregnant.
The suspect, who is well known to the girl, is said to have lured the victim to his house and locked her in before defiling her.
Reports indicate this was not the first time the suspect had defiled the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination candidate.
According to her brother, the girl was seen riding on the boda boda operator’s motorcycle sandwiched between the suspect and another man. The brother then trailed the motorcycle to the home of the suspect where they found the girl.
The matter was reported at Ibacho Police post and recorded under three occurrence book numbers 08/17/6/2019, 09/17/6/2019 and 10/17/6/2019.
But in strange turn of events, the girl’s brother was arrested on June 21, 2019 on charges of assault and causing bodily harm and detained at Ramasha Police station for two days.
He now claims that police officers investigating his sister’s defilement case were not willing to assist him get justice.
“I was arrested locked up in police cells yet the suspect who defiled my sister is roaming freely,” he said.
At the girl’s school, the head teacher promised to allow her back in school to prepare for KCPE examination.
“Despite the pregnancy, we will allow her to stay in school to prepare for examinations,” she said.
County Police Commander Martin Kibet promised to follow up the matter and have the suspect arrested.
