One of the top performers in this year's KCPE exam in the county is seeking help to join Kisii National School.

Onyango Isaac Okoth, 14, who scored 394 marks is from a poor family that suffered double tragedy recently when they were displaced by floods and their father fell ill.

"My aging father is sick and my mother does menial jobs in the village to feed us," said Okoth.

Okoth and his mother Milka Onyango trekked 15km to The Standard offices in Kisumu. Onyango said she had sought help from Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank and the county government without success.

Another top performer, 13-year-old Hollyness Bochere Mochache, who scored 384 marks, may miss out on joining Form One at Nyabururu School in Kisii County in January due to lack of school fees.

Bochere appealed to Kisii Governor James Ongwae to come to her aid since her widowed mother, Martha Moraa, can barely manage to take care of her five children following the demise of her father in a road accident last year.

At the same time, a family in Kawangware is appealing for assistance to have their son admitted to Form One.

Frankline Otieno risks losing his chance of joining Maranda High School due to lack of fees.

The same predicament has befallen Victoria Mbithe, who is set to join Bunyore Girls High School.

Mbithe's mother Anastacia Mongeri said her salary as a casual labourer cannot cater for both her family needs and the fees.
