National Assembly Shakeel Shabbir discharged from hospital, but MP to undergo more tests in Nairobi

Kisumu, Kenya: Kisumu East Member of the National Assembly Shakeel Shabbir has been discharged from hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for food poisoning.

Mr Shabbir was discharged from Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu on Wednesday afternoon after a two-night stay at the facility.

He said although his condition had improved, he was set to undergo more tests at Karen Hospital in Nairobi.

"Dr Daniel Gikonyo asked me to go for further tests just to be sure I am out of danger," said Shabbir.

The Kisumu East legislator, who fell ill on Sunday night, said at Aga Khan that his blood samples were taken for scrutiny. "I did not want to take chances so I had tests done on my liver, heart and kidney. My blood sugar was also checked," said Shabbir.

Aga Khan Hospital Medical Director Dr Sam Oula confirmed that Shabbir had been hospitalised at the facility.

"Tests were run on Shabbir and the results revealed that he had suffered food poisoning and severe diarrhoea," said Dr Oula.

Shabbir, however, denied that he had eaten at a function at Wigot Hotel or at a funeral in Manyatta estate.

He said he only ate food prepared by his wife in Kisumu on Sunday morning, but suspected the food poisoning may have been as a result of some chicken he ate at a restaurant in Nairobi.
