Thieves name police officers as accomplices before being lynched

Three police officers are under investigations over a spate of robberies in parts of South Nyanza.

The officers were named by thieves who were beaten by a mob in Oyugis in Rachuonyo South District, Homabay County.

The mob lynched the thieves after their alleged confession.

Nyanza Provincial Police Officer Mr Joseph Ole Tito said investigations into the officers’ alleged involvement in crime has commenced.

“A crime is a crime and does not matter who commits it,” said Ole Tito, adding that the law will take its course if the policemen are found guilty.

The PPO asked members of the public to volunteer information on the officers’ complexity in crime so that action would be taken against them.

According to residents, the suspects separately disclosed the names of the policemen attached to Rachuonyo South Police Division in their confession before they were lynched.

Local Youth leader Aseda Marigwa said the police are slow in responding to alarms leaving residents at the mercy of roaming thugs.

“We don’t have peace here for the last five months…business have to close early for fear of attacks by the marauding gangs,” lamented Marigwa in an interview with The Standard.
