Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku has ordered security officers in Laikipia and Samburu to return some 40 heads of cattle stolen from an elderly woman in Rumuruti area two months ago.

Lenku directed Laikipia County Commissioner Wycliffe Ogolla to liaise with his Samburu counterpart, Mr Wilfred Nyagwanga, and return the cattle within two days.

The Cabinet Secretary who spoke during a security meeting for Laikipia leaders and residents Nanyuki at the same time said failure to return the livestock “will cost someone a job”.

“I want the cattle back within two days. Call your colleague in Samburu and tell him I want the herd back,” Lenku said, forcing the commissioner to walk out of the hall to make a call to Nyagwanga.

The Cabinet Secretary said it was a shame that as residents were suffering and being impoverished by rising rustling cases, some government officers failed to accord the issue the seriousness it deserved.

His indulgence came after the victim, an angry Mama Adan, said her children were almost dropping out of school due to lack of school fees while security officers were not keen on recovering his cattle.

Laikipia West MP Dr Wachira Karani told Lenku that residents and security officers tracked the livestock to a manyatta in the neighbouring Samburu County.
