Maverick Aoko announces second pregnancy months after miscarriage linked to alleged police abuse

Scophine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, has announced she is expecting her second child, months after suffering a miscarriage she blamed on alleged mistreatment by police officers.

Aoko revealed the news on X, sharing a photo of a positive pregnancy test and writing: "No wonder I've been a walking ball of emotions... Finally, Coming back to KE with a degree and a baby."

She dismissed online rumors labeling her "barren" or accusing her of an abortion, declaring, "Mungu hakuli Kayole."

Netizens reacted swiftly with congratulatory messages, some throwing friendly jabs while at it.

"Congratulations. Akothee sasa anafaa kurelinquish hiyo title ya president of single mothers imepata new holder," one Steve Murathi said.

"Congratulations Aoko. Protect your peace, we want a calm baby," another joked.

The blogger first disclosed a pregnancy, shortly before her arrest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations last year.

During her detention, her team claimed masked officers raided her home, subjected her to harassment and prolonged questioning, and denied her timely medical attention.

Aoko later said the ordeal caused a miscarriage, a claim that sparked public debate but drew no official comment from authorities.

Through her social media manager, Aoko indicated on X, that she was harassed by masked officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Additionally, she explained that she was interrogated for hours before eventually being charged for her comments on a separate issue apart from what she had been questioned on.

She was released from police custody on a Sh100,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to three counts of publication of false information.

In a follow up post, a week after, she revealed that she had been "arrested so roughly" that she lost her baby adding that she considered herself lucky because "wengi wanauliwa."

Aoko, a former journalist, has built a large following with her sharp political commentary, often courting controversy over her attacks on public officials, influencers and political parties.

Her posts have, in the past, have led to multiple legal disputes, public feuds and further accusations of defamation.
