DCI: Some of the photos we shared were not of Azimio protesters

Hours after sharing photos of supposed suspects who vandalized property and pelted police with stones during the Azimio protests, DCI has come out to issue a public apology for misleading the masses.

This is after it emerged that some of the photos were not taken during the Monday protests.

A section of hawk-eyed netizens conducted a simple reverse image search on some of the photos shared and unraveled that they were taken a while back.

DCI took responsibility for the blunder, stating that they received overwhelming information in their portal, hence the mix up.

"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations wishes to unreservedly apologize to the public for the mix-up of images in yesterday's communication, which was meant to appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of criminal suspects involved in Monday's illegal demonstrations.

"The mix-up was partly occasioned by the overwhelming information that we had received via the #FichuakwaDCI online platform regarding the reported incidents of violence. While we work towards rectifying the same and maintaining public confidence in our operations, the Directorate continues to appeal to the public for information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects whose images appear below," read the statement.

Earlier, DCI said a firearm with 15 rounds of ammunition was also lost by an officer during the protests after he was supposedly attacked by a mob.

Further, 33 officers suffered injuries of various degrees during the melee and are currently receiving treatment at various health facilities.
