Three top energy chiefs arrested in substandard fuel probe

Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority boss Daniel Kiptoo, Kenya Pipeline Company Managing Director Joe Sang and Energy Principal Secretary Liban Mohame who spent the night at Gigiri Police Station.

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested three senior government officials.

They include Petroleum Principal Secretary Liban Mohamed, Kenya Pipeline Company Managing Director Joe Sang, and Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) CEO Daniel Kiptoo, who were arrested on Thursday evening over the alleged importation of substandard fuel.

The identity of the fourth individual arrested in connection with the saga is yet to be known.

The Standard has established that the trio spent Thursday night in custody.

They were arrested by detectives from DCI’s Operations Support Unit and are being held at Gigiri Police Station.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin confirmed the arrests, saying his officers were looking for dealers involved in the scheme.
