Three police officers attached to the Dog Unit in Nairobi have been arrested on suspicion of abducting two university students and attempting to extort Sh200,000 from their respective families.

A police report filed at the Lang'ata Police Station said the cops waylaid the two male students of Daystar and JKUAT universities respectively at Magharibi Buildings in South C and abducted them on February 3.

The suspects held the victims captive for four hours, accusing them of being in possession of bhang, which is illegal, the police report said.

The two students were taken to an undisclosed location in two different vehicles, a Toyota Vitz and Toyota Premio.

The report said the suspects asked the victims to call their parents and ask them to send Sh100,000 so that they could secure their freedom.

One of the students managed to raise Sh20,000 and was released, while the other was unsuccessful.

The mother of the student left behind rushed to the site where her child was being held captive and requested that the student be set free.

The police officers refused, the police report said.

The woman, thereafter, managed to trick the officers into believing they were accompanying her to an ATM machine to withdraw cash, only for her to raise the alarm when she saw police officers on patrol.

The police officers were consequently arrested, and are awaiting to be charged with robbery with violence.
