Kenyatta University alumni fete CS Eliud Owalo.

Kenyatta University alumni have feted the newly appointed Information, Communication, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo.

The fete took place over the weekend, bringing together the over 100 institution's alumni, Class of 1994.

Speaking at the event, CS Owalo underscored the place of ICT and the digital economy as the drivers of tomorrow's society.

"Professionals have a critical integral role to play 'in moving communities into the digital age, and into a future post-digital economy. Those who do not adapt, and go the digital way, risk being left behind and even becoming irrelevant in the emerging world order," Owalo said.

He added that Kenya's Silicon Savannah, now under construction, as the Konza Technopolis, will lift the country and the entire Eastern Africa region into a prosperous future, he told the gathering.

'Konza will open up the country and the region to immense possibilities. We are going to create millions of jobs and generate wealth through the digital opportunities from the Technopolis. Our young people need jobs, and they are eager and waiting. It is for us to avail the opportunities for them,' said the CS.

The attendees of the event hailed President William Ruto for calling one of them to the cabinet.

Other speakers at the event assured Kenyans that the President has settled for a diligent and focused professional, who would drive Kenya to realize the dream of a vibrant and empowered digital society.
