KIAMBU, KENYA: More than 300 Students from secondary school in Limuru of Kiambu County have for the last 3 months been selling mandazi and stationeries to their colleagues in order to help raise Sh2.4 million to help their principal undergo kidney transplant in India.

The students from Nyamweru Secondary School came up with the idea after their principal got a donor having been diagnosed with the disease six years ago.

Led by Salome Muiruri a student at Form Four West, the students who are day scholars decided to start the project of selling Madazi and other items to help them get fare to and from the school. But when they realized that their principal had been missing classes to attend dialysis at Kenyatta National Hospital they agreed that they will continue with the business but the money will be projected towards the medication of their principal.

In addition to collecting money the students have been helping their principal to study on their own when he is late for the English lesson, they also chose one of their own to help them in completing the syllabus when the principal who is their English teacher misses a lesson.

According to the principal Simon Ng’ang’a, he has used all his resources to attend dialysis clinics at Kenyatta hospital. He also adds that it has been difficult for him to attend to his administrative duties as principal and as a parent.

Gatamaiyu high school Principal Harrishon Karugu who has been his close friend says the despite his ailment Ng'ang'a has attended to his duties well, He hopes that they will join the students to get the required amount for the transplant. Karugu hopes that they will accomplish their mission and Ng'ang'a will come back and continue with his career of 23 years.

The principal who has been looking for a Kidney donor for the last six years successfully got one this year, his elder sister who has been tested and found fit to give one of her kidney will travel to India with him and his wife for the transplant this is if they will manage to raise the required Sh2.4 Million on 4th April.
