A teacher from St. Lilian Academy in Gikambura, Kiambu County, has been charged with circulating information about the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination papers on social media platforms.

Nicholas Ngumbau, alias Examiner, pleaded not guilty before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi on Monday, October 30.

He was accused of posting messages on WhatsApp and Telegram claiming that he had access to the KCPE exam papers.

The court granted him a cash bail of Sh100,000 with one contact person or a bond of Sh200,000 with two sureties.

Ngumbau was arrested on October 26 in Gikambura after police traced his phone number.

He allegedly opened 10 WhatsApp and Telegram accounts and was charging Sh2,000 for exam papers with marking schemes and Sh1,500 for exam papers without marking schemes.

The arrest came as the national examination kicked off on Monday amid tight security measures to curb cheating.

The case will be mentioned on November 13, 2023.
