Couple charged with Sh300,000 theft at construction site

A couple has been charged with stealing Sh300,000 through mobile money transfer at a construction site.

Kennedy Kipchumba and his wife Juliah Wangari denied the charge before Milimani Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi on Wednesday.

It was claimed that on July 10, at Kyuna construction site in Westlands, Nairobi, they stole the cash by transferring the money which belonged to Dishon Ndembi.

Their lawyer Lyaga Abdalla told the magistrate that the couple had been arrested on Wednesday last week and were held up to Friday last week when they were presented in court.

This was past 24 hours deadline as the law requires. On Friday, police who presented the two asked to be given one day to complete investigations. The orders were granted.

Abdalla said Kipchumba was a second-hand clothes seller while his wife Wangari was a housewife. “Your honour the first accused person is the breadwinner of the young family where they have two children one aged two and the other one is in grade four. Kindly grant them a lenient bail terms,” said Abdalla.

Shitubi ordered they be released on a bond of Sh200,000 each or pay cash bail of Sh40,000.
