Dane loses slot on second day

Round one leader Soren Juul of Denmark lost his lead on the second day of the Kenya Open at the Muthaiga Club, but is confident of making amends in the next two rounds.

The 34-year-old golfer from Smorum Golf Club in Valby, Denmark, ended yesterday’s round on five under par 137, six shots behind day two surprise winner Gary Boyd.

"I have never won a major title on the European Challenge Tour and I think this is the appropriate time to win one. I performed well in the Club Colombia Masters presentado por Samsung two weeks ago where I finished 11th overall and taking an overnight lead at the Kenya Open is a sign of title on my way," said Juul.

The golfer, who turned professional in 2001, picked a shot on the par three second hole, but had a bogey on the par four ninth hole to finish the first nine on 36. On the second nine, he picked a birdie on the par five 10th hole and dropped one shot on the par four hole 12 to post 35 and a total of level par 71.

"I started off well with a par on the first hole, I picked a shot on the second and after that I thought I would improve on my round one result but things went wrong for me. I hit my driver to the left on hole nine and straight to the bunker, before three putting hole 12.

I am planning to hit very low scores tomorrow (today) to stand a chance on the final day because a win at this event would be my best achievement in my profession," he said.

This year’s event with a prize money of Sh19m (180,000 Euros) at stake, has proved th moste unpredictable.
