While couples go an extra mile to keep unwanted pregnancies off, once in a while unprotected pregnancy risking intimate moments occur.

Such moments call for taking of birth control emergency pills or as they are commonly referred to, Plan B.

Almost every woman has taken an emergency pill once in their lifetime in an attempt to cover up for a moment gone wrong.

The society is quick to frown upon those who use the pill by making them look bad. Society even goes ahead to warn people of the pills by claiming the many bad things that come with the use of the pill.

As much as many of the said things are true, some are just misconceptions meant to scare users away.

These are the most common myths about Plan B;

Too much use of emergency pills renders them useless

As long as one uses the pill according to top the instructions on the leaflet, the pill is effective for the tenth time of use as on the first time.

Emergency pills affect fertility

These pills are released in the market after being tested for use. They are meant to stop the chances of falling pregnant once, after unprotected sex but not for one’s entire life.

They make one bleed

While these pills are known to alter ones’ menses cycle, for obvious reasons, they do not necessarily make everyone bleed. Their side effects also differ from one individual to another.

They are not different from abortions

E pills as they are commonly referred to prevent the occurrence of a pregnancy. They are taken within 72 hours of having unprotected sex. During this time, no pregnancy has occurred. Abortion, on the other hand, is getting rid of a pregnancy.

One can only take emergency pills thrice in their lifetime

This myth comes from the belief that too much use of these pills causes infertility. While one to use other available contraception methods, using the pill more than twice a month is not a health risk.
