Kaberia, Mwendwa: Blame it on politics for CHAN loss

Football Kenya Federation has pointed fingers to the current situation of politics for the withdrawal of hosting the CHAN tournament by CAF in January next year.

Addressing journalists on Monday at the Pan Afrique Hote,in Nairobi, Sports Permanent Secretary Peter Kaberia and FKF Chair insisted that they gave all they could to convince CAF’s committee in Accra that they were ready to pull this off.

Unfortunately, the plea was declined.

‘’We have lost CHAN and are disappointed by this” said the PS. He added that among other reasons, the political situation in the country is unpredictable and that CAF would not take any risks.

All is not lost though given the biannual youth world cup (U-20 and U-17) FIFA World will be rotating in Africa and CAF will throw their support to Kenya to host either of the tournament.

‘’It will be fair to give Kenya a chance when there is no politics going on in a year when we shall have determined our issues” said Mwendwa.

The PS called for a collaboration between the government and the federation so as to deliver the necessary infrastructure to host such a tournament.
