Pupils in the 470 pilot primary schools will start interacting with the new curriculum content next week, after successful completion of teacher training.

A Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) plan of activities seen by The Standard shows that the school-based pre-testing materials were ready to be sent out.

Julius Jwan, the KICD director, said the new learning materials – including learning aids and prototypes for children – would be in the schools starting May 29.

He said next week would mark a critical stage in curriculum implementation, coming just days after 2,000 teachers completed their training.

Up to 100 teachers per class in addition to 1,150 field officers from the Ministry of Education were trained in the Basic Education Curriculum Framework.
