Wedding planners turn to millennials to grow industry

Business owners in the wedding industry have been urged to embrace technology to capture the millennial market.

Speaking during a breakfast meeting at a Nairobi hotel last week, Samantha Bridal's Chief Executive Officer Catherine Masitsa said the industry is focusing on millennials who are re-envisioning weddings, looking for exceptional experiences and value for money.

Samantha Bridal and Zuri Events are set to conduct tours around the country and beyond ahead of a three-day Wedding Industries and Network Business Summit from November 20 to  22, 2019.

The tours are aimed at understanding the millennials and how the wedding industry can use digital marketing to capture them for future businesses.

“We want to bring together our collective experience and how we can learn from that. Millennials want self-satisfaction, they’re educated, savvy and expect efficiency, transparency and personalisation with any transaction,” she said.

Ms Masista said in this new age, wedding planners working with millennial couples ought to be familiar with what will “wow” them and their guests.

“Youths make up most of Kenya’s population and it is the same across Africa and represent majorly any economic work force in a country, so they have the most purchasing power,” said Tamima Mohammed, one of the speakers.
