Busting low libido when trying to conceive

By Hannah Chira

Is your lowered libido jeopardising your chances of getting pregnant? Well, for thousands of years, humans have been hunting food that will get them in the mood. Ancient Romans slurped shellfish while splashing around public baths, and the Marquis de Sade of France downed untold quantities of Spanish fly in the 18th Century.

Of course, finding a libido enhancer with scientifically proven positive effects on sexual health is important for those willing to conceive but getting to the job seems difficult.

Here are a few aphrodisiacs foods you could down to boost your hormone levels and get your blood pumping. Bon Appetit.

Celery

Serve your man celery sticks and he may suddenly seem more irresistible than Leonardo DiCaprio in The Departed. Raw celery contains the male hormone androsterone, which can act as a pheromone to trigger female attraction according to Ava Cadell the author of Passion Power. After a few bites, his sweat glands start releasing the pheromone. Androsterone also has mood-elevating effects in women, according to the Journal of Fertility and Sterility and it is ideal when feeling crunky.

Bananas

Bananas help you go the extra mile and last during sex. So fill up on them for foreplay just as you would for a marathon. It aids bedroom endurance as it contain B vitamins, which are key for converting carbs into energy and are also used to manufacture sex hormones such as testosterone.

Dark chocolate

Now you have reason to eat chocolates. According to a recent Italian study, women who report eating chocolate on a daily basis claim to have more satisfying sex lives. Coincidence? We think not. It contains a cocktail of chemicals linked to relaxation, intoxication, and pleasure. Like other sweets, chocolate triggers the release of feel-good endorphins and contain anxiety-quelling tryptophan. So nibble on a few squares after dinner it will help transform your mood from stressed to saucy.

Flaxseeds

A tablespoon of flaxseeds a day helps increase testosterone — the chemical with the most direct libido-boosting effect. Other that enhancing sex drive, these seeds contain essential fatty acids, omega-3 and omea-6, which are major building blocks of sex hormones. A low level of fatty acids means your hormone levels may decrease, and so will your desire. Flaxseed oil has twice the omega acids of fish and so, to rev your engine, either swallow a teaspoon of flaxseed oil or sprinkle a tablespoon of flaxseeds on your cereal and salads every day.

Ginger

This powerful root stimulates the circulatory system, increasing blood flow to the genitals. The pungent smell of ginger has stronger effect on penile and vaginal. When this aroma raises blood pressure, vessels in the genitals admit a rush of blood that inflates erectile tissue. The vessels then close off, preventing blood from exiting the erogenous zones, keeping sensitivity levels high.

Other foods to fill up on are nutmeg and clove, honey (no wonder newlywed’s sweaty getaways ae called honeymoons), and oysters.
