Day of the African Child yet to dawn

Despite spirited efforts by the Government to improve education equity and access through free and subsidised schooling, many learners still end up dropping out of school, posing a threat to the nation’s long-term productivity.

The Government needs to enforce the Children’s Protection Act and other appropriate legislation to ensure that the employment of minors is brought to an end.

There is also a need to diversify the curriculum to accommodate sports and music academies where talent can be harvested, nurtured and channeled to other areas of national life.

Finally, ensure the implementation of policy that compels all those that have attained school-going age to be enrolled in schools. This can be done by agents of the Provincial Administration.
