Feedback - Kibaki victory not responsible for post-election violence

PNU Vice-Chairman in charge of Election Affairs George Nyamweya’s (pictured) statement is unreasonable. Did Kenyans wake up one morning and start fighting?

He should stop commenting on the election because we have had two commissions whose reports said the election was rigged. That was the cause of the violence.

Should we ask Parliament to pass a Bill to set up a local tribunal? If disbanded ECK chief Samuel Kivuitu was wrong in the last election, do the MPs have a mandate to transact in Parliament?

Dissolve the august House and prepare to face justice.

President Kibaki’s loss in the 2007 Presidential election was similar to President Moi’s loss in 2002. The only difference is Moi handed over peacefully.

{Moses Marenya, South Africa}

Mr Nyamweya can take offense but the whole world knows there was nothing fair about the 2007 Presidential election.

Otherwise, why would they hurriedly swear in a fairly elected president in darkness? Focusing on the people who murdered and raped during post-poll chaos without investigating the root causes will not prevent the same from recurring.

PNU should brace for The Hague because Kenyans didn’t just wake up one morning and start fighting. It was after days of electoral manipulation.

{Michael Hallonda, US}

It is this myopia by our leaders that is stopping us from healing. If Nyamweya believes punishing those responsible for the Kiambaa massacre alone will bring peace, he should remember Justice Kriegler’s words. We need to get to the root of the problem.

{Sam Ogolla, Somalia}

This is redefining sycophancy. Who does not know violence erupted immediately Kibaki was declared winner? And who would have gone before Chief Justice Evan Gicheru to contest the results when he conducted the swearing-in under the cover of darkness?
